Veterans at the Heart of Our Mission

Phil Crenshaw

United States Army

Amanda Alvarado, RN

United States Air Force

At BRIDGE Hospice, our VALOR division stands as a beacon of respect and gratitude, dedicated to honoring the valiant men and women who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Among these remarkable individuals is Phil Crenshaw, whose life story embodies the essence of selfless service and commitment to country and faith.

Phil Crenshaw's legacy is a testament to the incredible spirit of our veterans. A chaplain who participated in the first South Plains Honor Flight a decade ago, Phil was recognized at the Capitol as the only living Assistant Chaplain from World War II. His journey began with ministering to soldiers and airmen in Okinawa, where he also extended his compassion to over 4,000 Japanese POWs. Phil's dedication to loving neighbors and enemies is a profound example of living out the commandment to love.

Following his return from the war, Phil, alongside his late wife Ruth, opened their home and hearts to more than 50 young people in need, showcasing a lifetime of generosity and compassion. Now at 101, Phil remains an active and inspiring figure through his writing, serving his community and the Lord. His life of personal sacrifice and faithful service inspires all, and we are deeply honored to have him as part of our community.

Phil is also the author of Another Wise Man, in which he shares profound insights on finding purpose and satisfaction in life through faith in Jesus Christ. His message is clear: true direction and peace come from seeking and finding God with all one's heart, as echoed in Jeremiah 29:13. This wisdom has guided Phil throughout his incredible journey, providing hope and meaning to countless individuals he has touched.

At BRIDGE Hospice, our VALOR division is privileged to have such inspiring veterans like Phil Crenshaw. His story, along with the dedication of our staff, reflects our mission to honor the selfless service and enduring strength of those who have served our nation. Medical Director Col. Larry A. Warmoth and Nurse Amanda Alvarado, both veterans themselves, exemplify this commitment. Dr. Warmoth, a former commander of the 149th Medical Group, played a crucial role in developing the VALOR division and organized flights over hospitals to honor healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Amanda, who served in the United States Air Force at 19, brings a deep understanding of the compassion and care needed by all families we serve. Although it was a short period, she gained experience that molded her into the nurse she is today.

Our commitment at BRIDGE Hospice is not just about providing care but celebrating the lives and legacies of those who have served our country with honor. Through stories like Phil's and the dedication of our veteran staff, we strive to create a supportive and loving environment where veterans feel cherished and appreciated. We will continue to honor their sacrifices and contributions to our nation with dedication and respect.

God bless our veterans and thank you for your service.
